The ground was hard though; without a mallet you’ll be bending a few pegs and swearing a bit no doubt. But the location is lovely. The forest is full of birdsong, and there’s also goats, chicken and peacocks that live on the site, so there’s always some natural noises going on. There is no electricity hook up at all on site, but reception will charge anything such as phones, laptops or camera batteries, for 50p an item. Drinking water is piped through 3 or 4 standpipes, and there are several rubbish collection points.

Pitches For:

  • Tents
  • Motor Caravans

There are also some cabins on site, up on a bluff through the woods.

Nearby Facilities:

  • Sailing
  • Fishing
  • Boating

Lake Access. Dogs to be kept on leads.

The lake was good to swim in, a little cold but very clean. You could also catch the lake steamer from either Torver or Coniston to see the lake that way, and perhaps visit the home of John Ruskin, which is just over the water from the campsite.

Open from March to October.
